Adalaj Step Well

This is only one of about 120 step wells constructed in the semi-arid regions of Gujarat and Pakistan.
This well is five stories deep and is embellished with much architectural carvings and decorations. It was built in 1499 by Muslim King Mohammed Begda for the wife of Veer Singh, a chieftain among the royal Rajput Vaghelas. The Vagelas were the last ruling Hindus before the Muslims entered this region of India.
